Top Guards

Tre Jones - Duke ($8,300 DK / $7,800 FD)

Jones has been one of the best point guards in the country all season, but he’s been overshadowed at times with how much talent Duke boasts. Lately though, the sophomore’s DFS value has increased as he’s taken on a much bigger role over the last two games. Wendell Moore is out for the Blue Devils, and Jones is now the clear lead ball-handler in the offense. Earlier we saw Moore play the point guard role at times. In these last two games, Jones put up 45 DK points both times and averaged 19.5 points, six assists, 5.5 rebounds, four steals and one block. Although Vernon Carey leads Duke in usage rate and shots share this season, it’s Jones who has been the catalyst on both ends of the court recently with Moore out. Coach K has been going with a two-guard lineup of Jones and Jordan Goldwire in Moore’s absence, and this guarantees even more ball-handling and usage for Jones because Goldwire is playing more because of his defense. He’s as safe as you can get on this slate at the expensive end of guard tonight.

Collin Gillespie - Villanova ($7,200 DK / $6,300 FD)

If you’re looking to pay down a little at the expensive end of guards (whether you’re playing Tre Jones or not), taking a shot on Villanova’s lead ball-handler is certainly a good move. For most of the season, Gillespie has been safe for 25-35 DFS points because of his high-usage role in the ‘Nova offense and consistent production in multiple stat categories. The Wildcats no longer have some of their bigger names of past years and the offense has been turned over to Gillespie as the point guard who can also score it plenty on his own. Through four conference games, the junior leads the team in usage rate and assist rate and is second in shots share. He’ll benefit tonight from playing against a faster-paced team in DePaul, and his 46% three-point shooting will come in handy against a defense that’s been allowing a ton of opposing points via the three during conference play.

Jalen Coleman-Lands - DePaul ($5,200 DK / $5,000 FD)

While DePaul is mostly led by their talented duo of Charlie Moore and Paul Reed, the third guy on the totem pole has been very valuable for DFS lately. In Big East play, Coleman-Lands is third on the team in usage rate and shots share but he’s usually providing 20 or more DFS points on a regular basis, making him fairly safe for cash games at these prices on both sites. Although he doesn’t offer much upside in ancillary stats, Coleman-Lands is providing enough production with his pure scoring as the go-to guy for buckets in the DePaul offense at times. He’s scored 15 points in back-to-back games now, and 14 points and 23 DK points over the last ten games.

Jordan Goldwire - Duke ($4,500 DK / $4,500 FD)

It took two games to get a real answer as to how Duke would replace Wendell Moore in the lineup, and it’s become clear that Goldwire is the guy to play in DFS right now from that backcourt. The junior played 37 minutes off the bench in Duke’s first game without Moore, but he only provided eight DK points. It was clear, though, that Goldwire was going to get increased playing time as he’s one of the better defenders on the team and provides a nice complement to Tre Jones in the backcourt. On Saturday, Goldwire moved into the starting lineup and put up 23 DK points in 30 minutes as he was much more involved offensively while still playing stalwart defense on the Wake Forest guards. We’ll likely see Goldwire start again tonight and his near-guaranteed playing time with Moore out makes him a clear value at his prices on both sites.

Other Guards to Consider:

  • Charlie Moore - DePaul ($8,400 DK / $7,300 FD)
  • Devon Dotson - Kansas ($8,100 DK / $7,500 FD)
  • Skylar Mays - LSU ($6,600 FD Only)
  • Nick Weatherspoon - Mississippi State ($6,000 FD Only)
  • Darryl Morsell - Maryland ($5,300 DK / $4,900 FD)
  • Justin Moore - Villanova ($5,200 DK / $4,700 FD)
  • Anthony Holland - Fresno State ($4,200 DK Only)

Top Forwards

Obi Toppin - Dayton ($8,600 DK / $8,000 FD)

Dayton and college basketball fans were given a scare on Saturday when Obi Toppin left the game with an ankle injury and was wearing a walking boot on the bench in the second half. Despite the injury, Toppin is expected to play tonight as he’s reportedly responding well to treatment. If he indeed plays, the Dayton sophomore will again be a top play on the entire slate with his do-everything role on both ends of the court. Through three conference games, Toppin leads the Flyers usage rate and shots share while being one of the better passers and rebounders too. He’s averaging 35 DK points over the last ten games with production in every stat category, especially as the team’s top offensive option. Even in 19 minutes last game before getting hurt, Toppin put up 36 DK points in just one half. His athleticism and size is a load to handle in the A-10 conference and although VCU is a worthy opponent, Toppin’s high-usage and involvement consistently gives him a high DFS floor.

Kristian Doolittle - Oklahoma ($8,200 DK / $7,200 FD)

There are a ton of high-priced forwards on this slate, but one of the guys who is almost guaranteed to produce for DFS is Kristian Doolittle. The Sooners’ power forward benefits greatly from playing alongside the taller Brady Manek, who guard opposing centers and allows Doolittle to take on a bigger offensive role and stay out of foul trouble in easier matchups. This will come in handy for Doolittle tonight as Oklahoma deals with Udoka Azubuike down low. This is a defensive matchup that Manek will largely handle and allow Doolittle do his thing on the offensive end. Doolittle leads the Sooners in usage rate and shots share this season and he’s averaging 32 DK points over the last ten games as the top scoring option in the offense.

Micah Potter - Wisconsin ($5,700 DK / $4,900 FD)

Potter’s price tag on both sites is slowly rising, but he’s still a big value considering how good he’s been lately for Wisconsin. The former Ohio State transfer is finally seeing legit usage, minutes and role after seeing limited action to begin his Badgers career. Over the last two games, we’ve seen Potter put up 32 and 45 DK points with his extended playing time in the rotation. He’s yet to start, but it’s clear that Potter is one of the most important parts of the rotation right now as he provides a big mismatch on both ends with his 6-foot-10 size and dominant rebounding skills. Potter now faces a Maryland team that struggles against teams with good bigs, and that will put him in contention to replicate what he just did against Penn State.

Montavious Murphy - Kansas State ($3,800 DK / $3,900 FD)

It’s really odd to see Murphy’s price below 4k on both sites despite him being a regular starter for Kansas State. The freshman began the year starting the first three games before being sidelined for a month in November and December. However, Murphy is back to starting in the K-State lineup (as he’s done the past four games), and he’s providing enough DFS value to be a solid cheap option on this slate if you need the salary relief. He’s put up 13 and 18 DK points in the past two games and he’s doing just enough in multiple stat categories to be relevant to us at these cheap price tags. We really don’t need much from him to return value, and Murphy has proven he can do that lately as the starting power forward.
