Top Guards

Tyrese Haliburton - Iowa State ($9,300 DK / $8,700 FD)

If you have the salary to fit him in, it might be smart to get at least some exposure to Iowa State’s do-it-all point guard. Haliburton has been a DFS stud this season as he stuffs the stat sheet in all categories while averaging 44.4 DK points thus far. He’s coming off a triple-double against TCU on Saturday when he put up a whopping 63 DK points with his 22 points scored, 10 assists, 12 rebounds and three steals. Although we can’t expect this type of ceiling game from him on a regular basis, his DFS floor is always very high with season averages of 17.7 points, 7.9 assists, 6.3 rebounds and 2.6 steals per game. Over the last nine games, the sophomore has provided at least 33 DK points in every outing - and he’s usually putting up much more than that. The price tag is definitely expensive for Haliburton, but he’s usually been worth it.

John Petty Jr. - Alabama ($8,300 DK / $7,000 FD)

With Alabama playing at the 4th-fastest tempo in all of college basketball, it allows all of their players plenty of opportunities to put up DFS-friendly stat lines with more offensive possessions than the average team. There are a number of Crimson Tide players worth considering on this slate but the guy who’s been a fantasy stud lately is John Petty. The 6-foot-5 junior wing can play the 2, 3 or 4 positions in the Alabama offense and although he doesn’t see a particularly high usage rate (20%) or shots share (20%), his 82% minutes share allows him to rack up stats in all categories while he’s on the floor. Petty is averaging 37 DK points over the last ten games and he has put 60 DK points twice in the past eight outings. Considering the price differential, he’s a better play on FD tonight with the $1,300 discount.

Brandon Robinson - North Carolina ($6,000 DK / $5,900 FD)

While North Carolina deals with a ton of injuries in their backcourt, Robinson has taken on a much larger offensive role lately than was originally expected heading into the year. With Cole Anthony, Andrew Platek and Anthony Harris all dealing with injuries, Robinson is one of the only healthy guards for the Tar Heels right now and by default, he is a very safe DFS play with the guaranteed playing time and offensive usage. The senior has put up 32 DK points in each of the last two games and he’s one of the only players that coach Roy Williams can consistently count on to help them win games. In these past two games, Robinson has played 34 and 36 minutes with per-game averages of 16 points, 4.5 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals.

Alex O’Connell & Jordan Goldwire - Duke

Duke freshman Wendell Moore is out indefinitely after breaking his hand, and we now try to guess how the Blue Devils will replace him in the rotation. O’Connell and Goldwire are both value options tonight who should see an increase in minutes, usage and role moving forward. O’Connell ($4,000 DK / $4,000 FD) has already started six games this season - including three of the past four - and he’s one of the more trusted options for Coach K. The junior started a handful of games last season as well and he has a 24% shots share and 20% usage rate when he’s been on the court this year. When he’s gotten extended playing time this season, O’Connell averaged 17.6 DK points over a recent four-game span. Meanwhile, Goldwire ($4,500 DK / $4,500 FD) filled in nicely for the injured Tre Jones earlier this year and has seen 20-30 minutes off the bench over the last month or so. The junior will likely have a solid role because he’s one of the best defenders on the team and has proven he can play a secondary role alongside Jones when they’re on the court together. We’ll likely see O’Connell start tonight, but that doesn’t mean Goldwire isn’t a worthy value play off the bench.

Other Guards to Consider:

  • Myles Powell - Seton Hall ($8,600 DK / $7,200 FD)

  • Isaiah Joe - Arkansas ($7,700 DK / $6,700 FD)

  • Herbert Jones - Alabama ($6,100 DK / $5,300 FD)

  • Nick Weatherspoon - Mississippi State ($5,900 DK / $5,500 FD)

  • Prentiss Hubb - Notre Dame ($5,700 DK / $5,800 FD)

  • Jeremiah Francis - North Carolina ($4,500 DK / $4,500 FD)

Top Forwards

Reggie Perry - Mississippi State ($8,800 DK / $8,000 FD)

The casual college basketball fan might not know much about Reggie Perry, but he’s one of the best big men in the country and deserves this expensive price tag right now considering how dominant he’s been. The sophomore is averaging 37 DK points over his last ten games and is coming off an impressive 43.5 DK points vs. Auburn last time out when he put up 21 points and 12 rebounds in a tough matchup. Before Nick Weatherspoon returned to the lineup, Perry led Mississippi State in usage rate (28%) and shots share (29%) while being the best rebounder on the team and a decent passer (with a 19% assist rate). Even with Weatherspoon back, though, Perry has put up 36, 55 and 43 DK points over the last three games and remains the Bulldogs’ best player. The 6-foot-10, 250-pound sophomore has a very favorable matchup tonight when he faces a fast-paced Alabama team that does not rebound particularly well. Perry has a size and rebounding advantage against the Crimson Tide frontourt and the increase in tempo will give him plenty of opportunities on the defensive boards.

Vernon Carey Jr. - Duke ($8,700 DK / $8,100 FD)

While many people will rightfully be looking for value in Duke’s rotation tonight with Wendell Moore out, we can’t forget about their stud down low having a big game in this matchup vs. Georgia Tech. Vernon Carey leads the Blue Devils in usage rate (30%) and shots share (30%) this season and he’s been able to have some monster DFS performances lately as a dominant force in the paint. The freshman is coming off a game where he put up 41 DK points with 24 points scored and nine rebounds against Miami on Saturday. He’s averaging 39 DK points over the last ten games where he put up less than 32 DK points only twice - and had three different games with 48 or more DK points. At 6-foot-10 and 270 pounds, Carey will present a big mismatch against Georgia Tech in the paint tonight as the Yellow Jackets do not rebound well - despite having three frontcourt players at 6-foot-9 and above. Carey draws fouls at the third-highest rate in the country and that does not bode well for Georgia Tech’s Moses Wright and James Banks - both players who commit a ton of fouls. If you’re not playing Reggie Perry, Carey seems like the next-best high-priced forward on this slate to lock in for all formats.

Tyrique Jones - Xavier ($7,600 DK / $7,100 FD)

If you’re looking to pay down a little at forward tonight, Tyrique Jones looks very appealing at these prices on both sites. The Xavier offense runs heavily through their two stud frontcourt players in Jones and Naji Marshall - and they should both have great games against Seton Hall, who is one of the worst rebounding teams in the Big East since losing Sandro Mamukelashvilli. Jones, meanwhile, is one of the best rebounders in the entire country with the 6th-best offensive rebounding rate (18%) and a top-50 defensive rebounding rate (25%). His instincts on the boards have allowed him to rack up 10+ rebounds in five straight games and in eight of the last ten. He’s averaging 33 DK points over these past ten outings and has proven he can be a DFS monster when he has an advantage in the frontcourt vs. opposing teams that struggle to rebound.

Matthew Hurt & Joey Baker - Duke

As mentioned above, Duke will have to replace Wendell Moore’s production in the lineup after he suffered a broken hand and will be out indefinitely. Matthew Hurt and Joey Baker should both see an increase in playing time on the wing for the Blue Devils and both represent some solid value on this slate. Hurt ($5,300 DK / $5,600 FD) has already started 11 of 14 games this season and he’s caught fire lately. The freshman put up 34 and 36 DK points against Boston College and Miami (FL) over the last two games, respectively, as he scored 25 points in the one outing and had a solid stat line of 13 points, six rebounds, four assists, two blocks and three steals in the other. We’ll likely see Hurt start again tonight as he’s got the hot hand in the offense and that’s something Coach K won’t want to move away from. On the other hand, Baker ($4,000 DK / $4,200 FD) only has one start this year but he owns a 21% shots share when he’s been on the court and is one of Duke’s better three-point shooters (41.5% on 41 attempts so far). He’ll likely come off the bench again tonight, but he’s shown he can put up 15-25 DK points if he’s catching fire from deep. Baker is worth a GPP flier on this slate as he should see an uptick in minutes now with Moore out.
