Top Guards

Jason Preston - Ohio ($8,400 DK / $8,300 FD)

Before you question why we’re suggesting an Ohio player right from the get-go, just take a look at Preston’s stats so far this year. The sophomore point guard is averaging 40.8 DK points per game with three different outings of at least 50 fantasy points. Although the matchup against Purdue is a tougher one, his DFS floor and ceiling are so high because of his do-everything role for Ohio. Preston’s 95.6% minutes share is the fourth highest rate in the country and he’s dominating the offensive usage for the Bearcats with a 30% usage rate, 25% shots share and 43% assist rate, which is the 6th-best mark in all of college basketball. All those advanced stats have helped him average 16.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, 8.6 assists and two steals per game thus far and he’s literally a nightly threat to put up a triple-double with his high usage. Preston’s ownership may be on the lower side tonight because people will be looking elsewhere to spend up for safer, sure-thing options (as we cover below), but this will make him one of the best GPP plays because of his legit 50-point ceiling on both sites.

Tyrell Terry - Stanford ($8,200 DK / $6,700 FD)

Stanford has gotten off to a very hot start to the season and debuted at number nine in the first edition of college basketball’s NET rankings. One of the big reasons they have been so good on both ends is their true freshman combo-guard Tyrell Terry. Among Stanford’s regulars, Terry only trails big man Oscar da Silva in offensive usage rate (25%) and shots share (27%), but he leads the team in assist rate (22%) while shooting 38.6% from three-point range with a decent rebounding rate. The Cardinal offense mainly runs through him and da Silva, but Terry will likely need to do more tonight against a San Francisco team that likes to play fast and has a pair of talented forwards who could force da Silva into foul trouble. Plus, Terry’s three-point shooting will come in handy as San Francisco does not defend the perimeter well at all, allowing opposing teams to shoot 39.6% from three (the 340th-worst mark in the country). Terry is averaging 31.1 DK points per game this season and recently put up 45 DK points in back-to-back games with a pair of 20-point, 10-rebound double-doubles.

Bryce Wills - Stanford ($4,800 DK / $4,700 FD)

When looking for value in DFS CBB, we like to target the players who are sub 5k on either site but play a large minutes share to contribute across multiple stat categories. Stanford’s Bryce Wills fits all those criteria, and he’s one of the better value plays on this slate with a realistic expectation to 4x his salary. The 6-foot-6 sophomore is a regular starter for the Cardinal with a 72.5% minutes share this season. He doesn’t get a high usage rate or shots share in Stanford’s offense, but Wills has been able to return value because of his solid production across all stats. He’s averaging 5.9 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.3 blocks/steals per game this season, good for a 17.6 DK points per game average, including at least 19 DK points in each of the last three games. Plus, Wills and the rest of the Stanford players get a pace-up matchup against the faster San Francisco team, which will give him more possessions on both ends to accrue more ancillary stats.

Denzel Mahoney - Creighton ($3,000 DK / $3,000 FD)

Welcome to the free square of tonight’s CBB DFS slate! Denzel Mahoney had to sit out the first semester of this season due to transfer rules, but he’s slated to be active and fully ready to go on Tuesday night with Creighton’s final exams now complete. It’s been awhile since Mahoney has played college basketball because he redshirted last season after transferring and has not appeared in the Bluejays’ first 10 games this year, but he should have a significant role in Creighton’s rotation right away. The team is dealing with a few key injuries right now with Davion Mintz and Kelvin Jones still working their way back from injury and Damien Jefferson possibly out or limited after he hurt his calf on Friday. Mahoney could potentially be in the starting lineup for Creighton but he will be a DFS lock play even if he comes off the bench at his min price on both sites. In 2017-18 with Southeast Missouri State, his last collegiate season, Mahoney led the team in scoring (19.8 points per game) and rebounding (5.1 boards per game) while shooting 41% from three-point range. At 6-foot-5, Mahoney instantly gives Creighton’s undersized lineup more size and skill from the wing position and you should simply just start your DFS rosters with him.

Top Forwards

Obi Toppin - Dayton ($8,900 DK / $8,100 FD)

Dayton’s best player may not be as well-known nationally, but there’s a reason he’s the most expensive forward on this slate. Toppin is averaging 38.6 DK points per game this season and only has one game where he put up less than 35 DK points. He leads Dayton in usage rate (26%), shots share (28%), and combined rebounding rate (32%) this year and is averaging 21.2 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game. Toppin is one of the best players in the country when driving to the basket, drawing fouls and being virtually unguardable at 6-foot-9 and 220 pounds from the wing position. He’s one of the main reasons why the Flyers are sixth in offensive efficiency and first in effective FG%, per KenPom. To put it simply, Toppin needs to be strongly considered in DFS lineups in all formats whenever Dayton is on the slate because of his high involvement on offense and on the boards, giving him one of the highest fantasy floors of anyone tonight.

Kristian Doolittle - Oklahoma ($8,600 DK / $7,600 FD)

There aren’t too many expensive forwards worth paying up for on this slate, but Doolittle should be mentioned in the same conversation as Dayton’s Obi Toppin to be the best DFS forward play tonight. The 6-foot-7 power forward leads Oklahoma in offensive usage (26.6%), and shots share (28.4%), and is the best rebounder on the team with a 28% combined rebounding rate while averaging 8.3 boards per game. Overall, he’s putting up 33.8 DK points per game this season has put up 35 or more DK points in five of nine games so far. Doolittle’s floor should be fairly high in this matchup against Creighton, who is undersized in the frontcourt and and does not have any elite rebounders to contend with Doolittle’s size down low. He should have close to a monopoly on the rebounding opportunities with only teammate Brady Manek challenging him for the most in this game, which should be a high-scoring one with 152 total points expected between two faster-paced teams. Plus, Doolittle has been putting up a ton of shots lately with 37 shot attempts in the past two games while going 7-for-10 from three-point range. With how much value there is on this slate, it’s fairly easy to build lineups with both Doolittle and Toppin anchoring your forward position.

Trevion Williams - Purdue ($4,700 DK / $4,800 FD)

After coming off the bench to start the season, Trevion Williams has now started the past three games for Purdue, and he will likely have a much larger role tonight. Boilermakers’ center Matt Haarms suffered a concussion on Sunday, did not practice on Monday and is doubtful to suit up against Ohio. If Haarms is indeed out, Williams will be the main guy down low for Purdue with a big increase in rebounding and scoring opportunities and a larger minutes share. In Sunday’s game vs. Nebraska, the 6-foot-9 big man had his best performance of the season with a team-high 18 points and 16 rebounds, a 36% usage rate, and a whopping 46.5 DK points. This was a huge step up in production for a guy who was averaging 15-20 DFS points beforehand in limited bench minutes for much of the season. Although he’s only started the past three games, Williams actually leads Purdue in usage rate this season (26.1%) and has been a better overall rebounder than the 7-foot-2 Haarms with a team-high 43.7% rebounding rate. With Haarms likely out tonight, the ceiling is massive for Williams and his floor should be safe for 4x or 5x on both sites.

Jake Forrester - Temple ($4,500 DK / $4,200 FD)

Although he’s yet to start a game for Temple this year, Forrester could be one of the better value plays on tonight’s slate in a favorable matchup. The sophomore has now come off the bench in the last five Owls’ games after he sat out the first four due to transfer rules. While he didn’t play much for Indiana last year, Forrester has become one of the better interior players for his new team in limited action thus far. He’s played between 16-22 minutes in the last four games in reserve but has seen more minutes at center than regular starter Justyn Hamilton. Soon, we could see Forrester overtake Hamilton in the starting rotation because he’s been more valuable. The 6-foot-8, 220-pound big man has a team-high 24.3% defensive rounding rate for Temple this season and he’s getting a 22.6% usage rate, and 20.6% shots share when he’s on the court. Forrester is averaging 17.3 DK points, 13.7 points, and four rebounds per game over the last three outings when he’s seen an increase in playing time as he gets more acclimated to the Owls’ rotation. His rebounding should help him return value tonight when he faces a poor rebounding team in Miami.

E.J. Liddell - Ohio State ($4,500 DK Only)

If you’re playing on DraftKings tonight, the Ohio State players look pretty attractive as the team is projected to score most points on the slate in a likely blowout win over Southeast Missouri State. Although Liddell comes off the bench for the Buckeyes, he’s been pretty involved on both ends when he is on the court and could be a solid value play on DK. The 6-foot-6 freshman has a 21.9% usage rate and 23.2% shots share on offense when he’s playing and he’s pretty good defensive rebounder and shot-blocker as well. Liddell is averaging 17.6 DK points per game this season and has put up at least 23 DK points in four of the last seven. On Sunday, Liddell benefited from Duane Washington sitting out as he had a season-high 14 points with five rebounds, two blocks and two steals in 20 minutes, good for 27.75 DK points against a tough opponent in Minnesota. With Washington possibly out again tonight, Liddell should see close to 20 minutes for a second straight game with the rotation tightened, and the freshman may see extended run in the second half if OSU is indeed ahead by a lot.
