GUARDS

Cole Anthony - North Carolina ($9,900 DK Only)

On DraftKings tonight, the big roster decision will come down to whether or not you pay up for Cole Anthony at an extremely expensive price tag. There are decent arguments for both, so let’s break it down. Anthony is undoubtedly on a tear to start the season with per-game averages of 27.3 points scored, 7.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 2.3 steals and 49 DK points through the first three games. His offensive usage rate and shots share are top 20 marks in the nation and lead UNC by a large margin. If you view Anthony as a near-lock for 40-50 DK points, then it’s not a bad idea to simply plug him in to get those guaranteed fantasy points to anchor your lineups - similar to what we experienced last year with Zion Williamson. Plus, if he goes off for 50+ then you’ll be sorry you didn’t have exposure to him. On the other hand, though, North Carolina is projected to blow out Elon by 32 and there’s a possibly Anthony doesn’t have to score or produce as much as he’s done already. If you don’t pay up for him, it will also allow you to roster Tres Tinkle as the top pay-up option at forward.

Anthony Edwards - Georgia ($9,200 DK / $7,600 FD)

Edwards’ DK price will make him a nice low-owned GPP play, but his FD salary looks very safe for cash games. The five-star freshman will be one of the first names called at next year’s NBA Draft as he’s one of the best all-around talents in college basketball this season. Edwards leads Georgia in offensive usage (30.4%) and shots share (32.1%) and he already has a pair of 40-point fantasy games under his belt this year when he scored 24 and 29 points in the first two games. Those games are the blueprint for the type of performance we should expect tonight from Edwards in what will be a close, fast-tempo game vs. rival Georgia Tech.

Mike Smith - Columbia ($7,300 DK Only)

The top players on mid-major teams generally go overlooked for DFS because they aren’t well-known and people assume they can’t keep up their fantasy production against better competition. We definitely shouldn’t ignore Mike Smith tonight, though, as Columbia’s best player in an uptempo matchup vs. St. John’s. The senior point guard leads his team in offensive usage, shots share and assist rate by a wide margin and he’s played at least 37 minutes in every game this season. Smith’s high involvement on offense keeps his DFS floor relatively high and Columbia also gets a pace-boost tonight with St. John’s playing at the 29th-fastest tempo in the country - forcing Smith and Co. to play at a quicker pace than they’re used to. Smith was able to put up 22+ DK points last game against Virginia’s tough defense and slow tempo. We should expect him to crack the 35-point threshold on DK in a faster game and against a St. John’s team that allowed Vermont’s Anthony Lamb to have a massive DFS performance on Saturday.

Devonte Green - Indiana ($4,800 DK / $4,600 FD)

Indiana’s senior guard made his season debut on Saturday after missing the first three games with a hamstring injury - and he was immediately involved in his return. Green played 20 minutes off the bench and put up 16 DK points. Although he only scored six points, it was encouraging to see Green put up eight shot attempts, have a 21% usage rate on offense and dish out four assists. There’s a chance he enters Indiana’s starting rotation soon now that he’s fully healthy - because he was an expected starter coming into the year after starting a handful of games last year, including all three of Indiana’s NIT games to finish up the season. Green was the Hoosiers’ best three-point shooter last season with a 41% mark from deep, and he’ll soon be relied on heavily to be the team’s best perimeter threat this year.

Rasheem Dunn - St. John’s ($4,800 DK Only)

Dunn made his season debut on Saturday after finally having his transfer waiver granted, and he was a major part of St. John’s rotation right from the get-go. Head coach Mike Anderson said before the game that Dunn would play significant minutes and he wasn’t lying. The St. Francis (NY) transfer played 27 minutes off the bench and scored 13 points on 12 shot attempts with a 24% usage rate. This involvement in the offense is a really good sign for Dunn and it came in a close game vs. Vermont, no less. He’ll likely be used in this super-sub role moving forward as the Johnnies’ best scorer off the bench - and he could even crack the starting rotation at some point soon. Dunn had high usage and shot rates for St. Francis in his first two collegiate seasons and it looks like the coaching staff is comfortable allowing him to take shots at will once he’s in the game.

Other Guards to Consider:

  • LJ Figueroa - St. John’s ($8,500 DK Only)

  • Lester Quinones - Memphis ($6,000 FD Only)

  • Darius Perry - Louisville ($5,500 DK Only)

  • Leaky Black - North Carolina ($5,500 DK Only)

  • Wendell Mitchell - Texas A&M ($3,800 FD Only)

FORWARDS

Tres Tinkle - Oregon State ($9,700 DK Only)

If you’re fading Cole Anthony on DK tonight, it’s likely because you want some exposure to Tres Tinkle in your lineups - and we can’t blame you. Tinkle is averaging a double-double this season with 21.5 points scored, 10 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game. He’s already dropped 54+ DK points twice this season and he’s a nightly threat to put up a 50-burger any time he’s on the slate. Not only does he lead Oregon State’s starters in offensive usage and shots share, but he also leads the team in assist rate and rebounding and is locked into 35+ minutes even in blowout wins - which tonight likely will be vs. UC Santa Barbara. Tinkle will likely be lower owned than Anthony tonight because Oregon State is less popular nationally than North Carolina and more people have heard of Anthony this year with his big scoring performances.

Josh Roberts - St. John’s ($7,400 DK Only)

As the starting center for St. John’s, Roberts has been very consistent in DFS this season with at least 27 DK points in all four games. He won’t regularly get a ton of shot attempts or score offensively, but we are targeting his rebounding and blocks in this matchup vs. Columbia. The Lions are one of the nation’s worst teams in terms of offensive rebounding and getting their shots blocked on offense - two stats that play perfectly into Roberts’ strengths. The 6-foot-9 sophomore has a two-inch height advantage over Columbia’s regular rotation at frontcourt and he’s grabbed at least seven rebounds in every game thus far, including 13 on Saturday vs. Vermont. He should have a ton of rebound opportunities with how fast St. John’s plays and Columbia will have to match that pace in order to pull off the upset. Plus, Roberts’ 12.8% block rate is the 17th-best mark in the country and he’s blocked four shots in three of the first four games. He could easily get back to that number tonight with how often Columbia is getting their offensive shots blocked this season.

Precious Achiuwa - Memphis ($5,900 FD Only)

If you’re playing on FanDuel tonight, lock Precious Achiuwa into your lineups in all formats because his price does not reflect his newfound role for Memphis. With James Wiseman sitting out right now, Achiuwa will continue to get a ton of usage on offense and his shots share has risen a lot as well. On Saturday - the Tigers’ first game without Wiseman - Achiuwa had team-high’s in usage (42%) and shot attempts (11) as he scored 20 points, grabbed eight rebounds and got to the foul line 20 times - good for 32 FD points. He’s been mostly overshadowed by Wiseman this year (and rightfully so), but Achiuwa was also a five-star recruit this past summer and would be the best player on a number of major CBB programs across the country. This is a massive misprice by FD and you safely lock him into your lineups in all formats over there.

Armando Bacot - North Carolina ($4,700 DK Only)

Despite suffering a concussion two games ago, Bacot didn’t miss any game action and returned on Friday to his regular playing time. In 23 minutes, the 6-foot-10 freshman recorded a double-double with 12 points scored, 11 rebounds and nearly 28 DK points in his usual starting role in UNC’s frontcourt. In that game vs. Gardner-Webb, Bacot and Anthony were the only Tar Heels to score in double figures and Bacot was second in offensive usage behind Anthony. UNC clearly needs Bacot to be the secondary scoring option to Anthony and he’s a force on the boards as well with his size. Even though the Tar Heels are expected to blow out Elon tonight, we should still expect this production from Bacot because UNC plays with a short rotation already. Bacot also put up 19.5 DK points in the season opener vs. Notre Dame with the second-highest offensive usage behind Anthony.

Malik Williams - Louisville ($4,600 DK Only)

While Malik Williams has yet to play this season, there’s a legit chance he suits up tonight as he’s been medically cleared from his foot injury and has been practicing without restrictions this week. Louisville head coach Chris Mack said that Williams could have played last game but he wasn’t ready for game action yet. Definitely check my Twitter timeline before this 7 pm ET tip to get a status update on Williams (if we have one) - but he could be a very nice value play if he sees 20 minutes or more. The 6-foot-11 junior big man started 20 games last year and he’s expected to play a major role in the Cardinals’ frontcourt when healthy this season. He was Louisville’s best defensive rebounder and shot-blocker a year ago and he would easily return 4x or 5x value even if he gets reserve-level playing time tonight.
