Welcome to the fantasy hockey waiver wire report! As usual, every week, the weekly waiver wire report will help you target some players that you should be adding, or monitoring, on the waiver wire. You’ll want to check back through the week to see if players are added. The fantasy hockey season is a long one, but staying on top of the waiver wire will most certainly help keep your team competitive. Let’s see who we should be targeting this week.

Kasperi Kapanen - Pittsburgh Penguins - Winger

The Penguins will be without Evgeni Malkin for an extended period of time, so someone is going to have to step up and support the top line. Kasperi Kapanen is the best of the rest, and he is expected to take Malkin’s spot on the top power play unit. It’s unrealistic to expect Kapanen to become good overnight, because his supporting cast isn’t great, but he has the best potential to become at least fantasy relevant as we move towards the end of the season.

Pavel Buchnevich - New York Rangers - Winger

It’s crazy that we are talking about Pavel Buchnevich at this point in the season as a waiver wire add, but he’s 59% owned in Yahoo! leagues, and he LEADS THE RANGERS IN POINTS! Again, didn’t think we would be here, but if he’s on your waiver wire, please go add him. He’s not even a depth option, he’s a player who could be in your lineup every week.

Mattias Ekholm - Nashville Predators - Defence

Remember when Joel Edmondson was in this spot last week? Well we have an even better option here with Mattias Ekholm! The Nashville Predators are terrible, but Ekholm is the best, healthy defenceman right now, and while he isn’t racking up a bunch of points, he’s shooting the puck, blocking shots, and dishing out some hits. In a category league, you can do a lot worse than Ekholm. He isn’t a long-term solution, but in the short-term, he’s worth a roster spot.

Jamie Drysdale - Anaheim Ducks - Defence

The Ducks have a lot of good rookies, and Jamie Drysdale is one to keep an eye on. He has two points in as many games and is playing 19 minutes per game. The best part-- he’s seeing time on the top power play unit. The Ducks power play is a hot mess, but the kid is getting the opportunity to play, and he could quickly become the favourite on this team. He’s worth considering in deeper formats as a speculative add.

Jack Campbell - Toronto Maple Leafs - Goalie

It’s no secret that Frederik Andersen is #NotGood, but he plays on a very good team, so his numbers tend to look very nice, but he’s not. He’s been pretty sub par in the month of March, and now he’s dealing with a lower-body injury. Jack Campbell on the other hand, is returning from injury and has some very good numbers. It’s a small sample size, but he’s perfect in his four starts this season and has a crazy .965 SV%. He’s not going to be elite for the remainder of the season, but at this point, he’s played well enough to earn more starts, and fantasy owners are starting to take notice. He’s 40% owned in Yahoo! leagues, so there’s still time to get on the Campbell bus before it’s too late.
