Welcome to the fantasy hockey waiver wire report! As usual, every week, the weekly waiver wire report will help you target some players that you should be adding, or monitoring, on the waiver wire. You can’t win a championship with the team you drafted, which means, you’ll need to be active on the waiver wire to help replace injured players, and others who are just not getting the job done. Let’s get right into it for this week.

Andreas Athanasiou - Edmonton Oilers - Winger

Athanasiou must be the happiest person on the planet. He went from playing on the worst team in the league to playing on the wing with Connor McDavid. Anytime you can play with the best player in the world, you’re going to have some success. Athanasiou is a former 30-goal scorer, and he can be fantasy relevant down the stretch for a team that needs some scoring.

Tyler Ennis - Edmonton Oilers - Winger

Let’s stick with the Oilers here and talk about Tyler Ennis. Maybe Athanasiou is already taken in your league, well Tyler Ennis is a nice second option. He is currently skating on the top line with McDavid, and that can only help him rack up some points. As long as he stays in the top-6, he should be a player to consider on the waiver wire.

Anton Forsberg - Carolina Hurricanes - Goalie

The Hurricanes are in a jam with both their top two goalies out due to injury. Someone is going to have to lead this team as they continue to fight for a playoff spot, and so far, it looks like it’s Forsberg’s job to lose. Alex Nedeljkovic wasn’t that great in his first start, but the Hurricanes will probably give him another chance to redeem himself. Forsberg has some NHL experience, and he was great in Colorado, despite not picking up the victory. This isn’t an ideal situation, but for a fantasy team that needs a goalie short-term, Forsberg is the way to go.

Sonny Milano - Anaheim Ducks - Winger

I don’t know why Sonny Milano was unable to find a regular spot in the lineup in Columbus, but he’s in Anaheim now, and they are going to give him the opportunity to find a permanent home in the top-6. In two games, Milano has three points, two of which courtesy of the man advantage. At 23-years-old, he still has a ton of time to develop into an excellent NHL player, but it’s going to be up to him to take advantage of the opportunity he is being given. He’s only 1% owned in Yahoo! leagues, so he’s widely available and is worth considering if you’re looking for a winger with some upside.

Alex Stalock - Minnesota Wild - Goalie

It looks like we may have a new number one goalie in Minnesota. Everyone knows that Devan Dubnyk has not been good this season, and that has opened the door for Stalock to take over. He’s been really good in the month of February, and that has led to him seeing more starts than Dubnyk. Despite the recent success, he’s only 24% owned, which is stranger considering just how rare it is to find good goalies on the waiver wire at this point in the season. He’s going to have some bad games every once in awhile, but right now, he’s playing better than his teammate and he’s getting rewarded with more starts. If you need a goalie, Stalock is the best option.
