Welcome back to another fantasy hockey season! As usual, every week, the weekly waiver wire report will help you target some players that you should be adding, or monitoring, on the waiver wire. You can’t win a championship with the team you drafted, which means, you’ll need to be active on the waiver wire to help replace injured players, and other who are just not getting the job done. Let’s get right into it for this week.

Tristan Jarry - Pittsburgh Penguins - Goalie

If you aren’t on the Tristan Jarry train yet, you need to get your ticket and get on board, quickly! The Penguins so called “back up goalie” is starting his fourth straight game on Friday against the Columbus Blue Jackets. He’s won three games in a row (his last win was in relief of Murray in that crazy 8-6 comeback) and it looks like he might start stealing some starts away from Murray. His 2.01 GAA and .938 SV% are elite numbers, and while no one expects him to maintain that pace till the end of the season, he’s doing enough to merit a full time spot on a fantasy hockey team.

Kirby Dach - Chicago Blackhawks - Center

With Dylan Strome out of the lineup due to a concussion, rookie Kirby Dach is skating on the second line with Patrick Kane and Alex DeBrincat. As long as that line stays together, the 18-year-old deserves to be on someone’s fantasy team, even in shallow leagues! He only has 10-points in 18-games so far this season, but like we’ve talked about in the past: fantasy hockey is all about volume, and Dach is getting a bump in volume. The added cherry on top is him seeing second power play minutes. He’s 7% owned on Yahoo!, so he’s very much available on the waiver wire. As a short-term solution, he can’t hurt your team.

David Krejci - Boston Bruins - Center

With Paptrice Bergeron still out of the lineup, David Krejci is a must add. I would have mentioned him last week, but I was away in Mexico enjoy too much alcohol. He’s only 46% owned on Yahoo! and is playing with arguably the hottest winger in the NHL this season (David Pastrnak, in case you live under a rock). Krejci might already be taken in deeper formats, but in shallow leagues, owner’s who need to add some center depth should look to add him. He’s had three multi-point games in his last four, so again, if he;s on your waiver wire, just add him.

Morgan Frost - Philadelphia Flyers - Center

If you haven’t noticed, there are a ton of great center options that we should be targeting heading into the weekend, and Morgan Frost is my favourite option if you’re in a deeper league. Andrew Dewhirst mentioned him last week in the weekly waiver wire report, but I’m going to mention him again, so you know just how much we love this kid. The rookie centerman is skating on the top line with Claude Giroux and Travis Konecny. This gives Philadelphia two decent attacking lines, and should help Frost avoid those really tough matchups. The 20-year-old is also seeing some time on the top power play unit, so there’s really no reason to fade him. His three points (2G, 1A) in five games isn’t blowing anyone away, but he’s a kid learning how to play in the NHL , and if he can hold that spot on the top line, he could very well finish the season with 40-points.

Filip Zadina - Detroit Red Wings - Winger

I don’t know what took Detroit so long to call up Zadina, but the rookie sniper is in the lineup and that should make fantasy owners jump with joy. We know he can score goals, but he hasn’t been able to do it consistently in the NHL, and his defensive game has been #NotGood. With Anthony Mantha out for a couple of weeks, Zadina is going to be counted on to score goals. At some point, Jeff Blashill will take his head out of the sand and put Athanasiou at center with Zadina and Perlini. That’s a line the entire hockey community can get behind. For now, Zadina shouldn’t be in danger of losing his second line or top power play spot. Let’s see if the kid can seize the opportunity that is being given to him and run with all the way to the end of the season.
