Welcome back to another fantasy hockey season! As usual, every week, the weekly waiver wire report will help you target some players that you should be adding, or monitoring, on the waiver wire. You can’t win a championship with the team you drafted, which means, you’ll need to be active on the waiver wire to help replace injured players, and other who are just not getting the job done. Let’s get right into it for this week.

Tomas Tatar - Montreal Canadiens - Winger

I feel like no one is talking about Tomas Tatar and his amazing start to the season. The veteran forward has 11 points (4G, 7A) in 13 games, adding 36 shots on goal and a plus-3 rating. Known as “Tuna” around town, he has been a staple on the top line with Danault and Gallagher and has been a pleasant surprise for fantasy owners. Despite the strong start, he is only 42% owned on Yahoo!, which is shocking to say the least. If he is available in your league, he needs to be added.

Sammy Blais - St. Louis Blues - Winger

With Vladimir Tarasenko basically out for the remainder of the season, someone is going to need to step up and help contribute on a regular basis. For now, it looks like Sammy Blais will get that chance. The 23-year-old is skating on the top line with Jaden Schwartz and Brayden Schenn, but he still isn’t seeing any power play time. That does limit his upside, but the opportunity he is getting right now is enough to warranty a spot on a fantasy roster. He’s widely available across multiple platforms, so fantasy owners who need some scoring help should look his way.

Alex Tuch - Las Vegas Golden Knights - Winger

Welcome back to the lineup, Alex Tuch! After missing the start of the regular season, Tuch made his season debut against the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday and managed to score a goal while playing just under 13 minutes. He has proven that he can score in this league, and there’s a good chance that he finds his way back onto the power play. If the first two options aren’t available on the waiver wire, Tuch is a nice third option.

Quinn Hughes - Vancouver Canucks - Defence

Why are we talking about Quinn Hughes being available on the waiver wire? Because there is a good chance that he might be available in your not-so-deep leagues. I did a stupid thing about two weeks ago-- I dropped him, and since then, he’s gone on to average about a point per game and is seeing over 20 minutes per night. I preach patience like a pastor at Sunday mass, but I didn’t follow my own advice and that’s probably why I’m 10-26-3 to start the season. All that to say: Quinn Hughes deserves to be on your fantasy hockey team! In shallow leagues, you might have to make some tough decisions, but he shouldn't be 67% owned on Yahoo!. Don’t make the same mistake as me.

Ryan Miller - Anaheim Ducks - Goalie

This is a really bold add, but for owner’s in really deep formats, this could be a sneaky add that helps you win a championship. The veteran goalie has three wins this season, with a 2.10 GAA and a .929 SV%. those are some very elite numbers for a goalie that is past his prime. The Ducks have been a very good team defensively, and that is good news for Gibson, and for Miller. There’s no question that he is the backup and that Gibson will play the majority of the games, but if Miller continues to play this well, maybe he will get some extra starts. If anything, he’s a nice handcuff to have should something happen to Gibson.
