Darcy Kuemper is likely to get the start in net for Arizona Saturday.

Kuemper was the backup goaltender Friday in the Coyotes loss to the Wild after missing the previous three games with a lower-body injury. He is 6-7-2 with a 2.41 GAA, and .913 save percentage in 16 games this season. Start him if you normally would.

Nicklas Backstrom's assist Friday was the 700th of his NHL career.

Backstrom, the first Capital to accomplish the feat, did so in 979 NHL games, becoming the 25th NHLer ever to do so in under 1,000 games. He is having an outstanding season with 10 goals and 26 points in 23 games. Congratulations go out to Nicklas on the big achievement.

Keith Kinkaid is expected to back up Alexandar Georgiev Saturday.

Kinkaid will be promoted to the Rangers regular roster from the taxi squad in time for the start of Saturday's game against the Devils as Igor Shesterkin is out of action with a mild groin strain. If Shesterkin is required to miss a significant amount of time, then look for Kinkaid to get some playing action as the Rangers play nine games in the next 15 days.

Ryan McDonagh scored his second of the season Friday in a 4-3 shootout loss to Chicago.

McDonagh has six points in 22 games with a plus-six rating. He scored on a rebound from an Alex Killorn shot that gave the Lightning a 3-2 lead but they were unable to hold on. McDonagh is a fine defenseman with more value on the ice than in a fantasy pool.

Fired goaltending coach Stephane Waite said Friday that the Canadiens thought that Carey Price would struggle at the beginning of the season.

“We expected that in January and February it’s gonna be tough for him to get his rhythm, his timing, his feel for the puck, seeing the puck well like he used to because Carey is not used to playing every two games,” Waite told TSN 690’s Mitch Melnick Friday. “Every good No. 1 goalie is the league needs to play a lot to have the timing. We thought he might have some problems, but he would benefit in March and April when the plan was for Carey to play two games out of three...We were very disorganized (in our own zone) and Carey wanted to do too much, cheat a little bit and once a goalie starts to not trust the defensive system, that’s when he starts to guess. Then there’s bad goals and he starts to lose his confidence and it becomes a snowball. That’s why the last four days before I was fired, we sat down and settled things down, said ‘OK, relax, come back to the basics.’ You could see he was too busy as a goaltender (and we said) just kept it simple, let the game come to you." It looks like it may be a good time to try and get Price in your fantasy pool.

The Detroit Red Wings have sent defenseman Gustav Lindstrom to Grand Rapids of the AHL.

Lindstrom was on the Red Wings taxi squad. He played 19 games with Detroit last season, picking up one assist but the 20-year-old defenseman needs playing time and will return to Grand Rapids as he has already played five games with the Griffins.

Rasmussen will get in some playing time at Grand Rapids as the Red Wings do not play this weekend. He has three assists in 10 games with Detroit and two goals and six points in seven games with the Griffins.

Taylor Hall is still thinking about a long-term career in Buffalo.

Hall inked a one-year deal worth $8 million in the off-season and has not played well thus far with only two goals and 13 points in 21 games. "Yeah, I'm open to anything," Hall said. "It's not like I've had an amazing statistical year by any means so far this year. Just in saying that, I think I've enjoyed my time here. I really like the guys, the coaching staff, the way we're treated as players, and like we said from the start, my agent and myself, we're open to anything...I was never treating this as a one-year thing. I was always coming into it open-minded and we'll have to see what happens here, if there's interest on their side. But yeah, of course I have interest."
