DFS Lineup Construction Thoughts

We have a massive 12-game slate that includes some elite players in very good matchups.  We have the usual elite players to choose from like Connor McDavid and Nathan MacKinnon, but we can also target some really good value plays.

Goalies will once again be a key part of building our lineups. We can target a high-priced goalie or look for one more affordable despite the difficult matchup. One thing is for sure-- goalies continue to be voodoo.

NHL DFS Lineups: Best Goalies to Use

Justus Annunen, G, Colorado Avalanche

There is no question that Justus Annunen is the top goalie on the slate. Montreal is a wreck on the road, and they aren’t going to be able to steal a win in Colorado. Annunen has been great over his last four stars, so there is no reason to worry about him. It might be hard for him to hit value, but he’s still a cash-game option to consider.

Scott Wedgewood, G, Dallas Stars

If you aren’t going with Annunen in cash games, you might as well look at Scott Wedgewood. His numbers this season have been decent, but he’s got a great matchup against San Jose and the Stars are one of the highest-scoring teams on the road. He should get more than enough goal support in this one.

Alex Lyon, G, Detroit Red Wings

It has been really tough for the Detroit Red Wings over the last few weeks. They still have a chance to make the playoffs, but they can’t be dropping games like tonight against Washington. The Capitals don’t have an elite offence and Alex Lyon has been good this season. He’s 2-8-0 in his last ten starts, so there is some risk starting him, but I like his price point and am willing to take the risk in a GPP.

Karel Vejmelka, G, Arizona Coyotes

It’s hard to trust the Arizona Coyotes on any given night, but I like their chances tonight. Karel Vejmelka has been very good in his last two games-- allowing a total of two goals-- and has now won three of his last five starts. His $8,000 price tag is more than I’d like to spend, but we can’t ignore his strong matchup.

Petr Mrazek, G, Chicago Blackhawks

If I'm going to take my chances with the Chicago Blackhawks, I’m going to do it when they are at home and when Petr Mrazek is in goal. He’s 12-10-3 at home with a 2.54 GAA and a .922 SV%. Those are some pretty elite numbers considering the team he plays for. He may not win the game, but he’s not going to get blown out of the water. His $7,200 price tag is also very appealing.

Nathan MacKinnon, C, Colorado Avalanche

As a Montreal Canadiens fan, I am truly terrified for tonight’s game. Nathan MacKinnon has a point in every home game this season and he’s going to add a few more to his total before the end of the night. Montreal will not be able to contain him. It’s not a question of *IF* he gets a goal tonight, it’s more a question of how many.

Auston Matthews, C, Toronto Maple Leafs

It’s not a great matchup for Toronto, but Auston Matthews has 31 goals in 33 games at home and he is still shooting the puck a ton. Many people are going to gravitate towards MacKinnon, so maybe we will be able to get Matthews at a lower ownership. He can be used as part of a stack or as a single bullet in all formats.

Mikko Rantanen, W, Colorado Avalanche

I mean, why stop at just playing MacKinnon? Go all out and pair him with Mikko Rantanen who has 19 points in his last ten games. Those two are going to be on the ice and ton and they are going to dominate.

Jake Guentzel, W, Carolina Hurricanes

Jake Guentzel is making his return to Pittsburgh tonight for the first time since being traded. If you believe in the hockey gods, you know he’s going to want to come out and have a strong game against his former club. The Penguins are in shambles after blowing a 4-0 lead to the Colorado and I can’t see them finding a way to slow down Carolina. I like Guentzel in all formats.

Cale Makar, D, Colorado Avalanche

Yes, another elite Colorado player to target. It might be quite the challenge to fit all three into one lineup, but it’s worth breaking your head for at least one GPP lineup. Makar is elite and he’s going to get his looks tonight.

Roman Josi, D, Nashville Predators

There’s a reason why the Nashville Predators have been elite over the last month and Roman Josi is a big part of that. We know what he brings offensively to this team, but he can block shots and plays a ton of minutes. Vegas may feel like a tough matchup, but Josi is still going to get his looks and with his floor being so high, he doesn’t need multiple points to hit value.
